CLOSE ENCOUNTERS WITH THE SUPER STAR DJs: THE CHEMICAL BROTHERS!!!

Image
(the article below is my musical journey to the music of the Chemical Brothers. This article also lead me to meet them! Enjoy!) I am excited to see, hear and feel The Chemical Brothers because they are (and still) a big part of my life. Never thought an adolescent who loved new wave and rock music would be converted and fell in love with electronica/ big beat music since dancing to Herbie Hancock's “Rockit” when I was 4. I was immediately hooked when I first heard “Rock Blocking Beats” on the radio way back 1997, the year that rock music almost died because of the eletronica invasion. The song has guitar and rock beat elements and was danceable. I told myself this genre will hit big! I immediately bought a “Dig Your Own Hole” cassette tape the week it was released from the local record bar. And Bang! Rockstars (Noel Gallegher) and Djs do work! The album became the soundtrack of my senior year. I got my high school friends and neighbors hooked to Chemical Brothers' music as we

All Hail The Flaming Lips!!!

I got a taste of the Flaming Lips' music when their single “She Don't Use Jelly” became a hit on a local Manila Rock radio NU107 late 1994. Because of the quirky guitars and out of its funny lyrics, it got stuck in my head. Until I was able to swap my Size 14 cassette tape to the Flaming Lips' 2 albums, namely “Transmissions From The Satellite Heart” (which includes “She Don't Use Jelly”) and “Cloud Taste Metallic” with one of our high school teachers, I know I was in a ride. The sound of the Lips was on those two albums was like Neil Young singing on Sonic Youth's music but on a happy note! Their single “Bad Days” from Cloud Taste Metallic released 1995 was a catchy tune that I always sang when of course when I am on a bad day to convert it into a good one! Transmissions from the Satellite Heart . Then while watching on a free UHF channel named SBN 21 early 1995, I was able to watch a re-run of a David Letterman show featuring The Flaming Lips singing &q

NU 107 IS DEAD!!!

Since JaeDee removed her article from her blog, most likely because NU107 Execs want her lips sealed, I will repost her article for the viewing public... News Goose’s Final Report: NU107 is Closing Down! October 24, 2010 by  adventuresofabeautyqueen 7 Votes jaeDee the NewsGoose of NU107 from the 90's to the early 2000'sUPDATE: UPDATE:  NU Closing Down on Nov. 7? Good morning guys! This is jaeDee the NewsGoose with some shocking news for rock fans in Metro Manila… The one and only rock station in town – NU107, The Home of NU Rock – will soon be the Home of NO ROCK! That’s right, I’ve received information from three reliable sources, all part of NU107′s inner circle, that the radio station will finally say goodbye to it’s rock image and shift to a ‘masa’ pop sound under new management. The reason for the image change was reportedly a financial decision on the owners’ part. The transformation won’t be overnight though. According to one of my sources, starting this November the

Concert Recall: Lotus Eaters Live in Manila August 3, 2002 Rockwell Club Tent. The Lotus Eaters: Jeremy Kelly and Peter Coyle / Early Years I was trying to recall all the concerts I have attended for the last few years. Being gulity on not attending the following concerts here in Manila: Rage Against the Machine, Pearl Jam, Cranberries, Beastie Boys, Sonic Youth and Foo Fighters, I need to start my blood thirst concert viewing ASAP! One of those memorable concerts that I attended to was the concert of the 80's new wave band: The Lotus Eaters. This would be my first foreign artist concert I watched here in Manila and the first new wave band I saw live in the Philippine shores. I was aware of the band since the late 80's because of their songs were played on cassette tapes and vinyl by my elder brother and sister. Their songs were also in heavy rotation on the radio station 89 DMZ. There were only 3 Lotus Eaters song I knew of: "The First Picture of You",&

The [NIN]eties & Beyond will be not the same if there would be no [NIN]!!!!

I remember when I strolled around malls and went to a local record bar (the now defunct Pop Station music store) that sells rocks shirts in the early 90's, I always see this Top 40 shirt with a cool [NIN] logo hanging in display in the glass wall. I asked the sales lady what does NIN means and she said that it was Nine Inch Nails, a band name. Okay. Sounds like a size of your manhood to brag upon. And that's were it all began. Young Trent Reznor at a gig. I got a taste of Nine Inch Nail's music when I was in high school, the so called grunge days. I was able to listen to their song "Closer" when it was still new on the radio and I was quite shocked to hear about its vulgar chorus : "I wanna ---- you like an animal!" It was as simple as filling out the blanks. Just deciphered the beep censored part they played on the radio and you know that it is the word "fuck". Indeed, the song has a very straight forward message. It was like a hardcore
