Smash Project: The Biggest Concert Team Up This Side of Town!!!

Image
All the emo kids and broken hearted people of the early 2000s will finally rejoice for the biggest and the baddest concert of the year: Smash Project featuring the Used, Dashboard Confessional, Cobra Starship and the Cab!!! I believe this is the most star studded band line up since 1996's Alternative Nation Tour in Manila featuring Sonic Youth, Foo Fighters and Beastie Boys. Dashboard Confessional  And to gear up my emotions, I missed the last Dashboard Confessional concert for 10 minutes, yes 10 freaking minutes because of EDSA Traffic!!! I was able to watch Cobra Starship at Alabang Town Center when they were still promoting their debut album, pretty rad! So this will be the first time I will be able to see the Cab and the Used. And I am very excited to see the Used! The Used It will be a time space warp to 2001-2003 for me to listen again to the music of the Used and also their contemporaries Dashboard Confessional. The Used singles "Blue and Yellow," &qu

Death Cab For Cutie - Live in Manila!!!

So all the trendy boys and girls cannot wait for Death Cab for Cutie's concert tomorrow at NBC Tent in the Fort Taguig! DCFC is presently composed of Benjamin Gibbard (vocals, guitar, piano, bass, drums), Nick Harmer (bass, keyboards, guitar), Chris Walla (guitar, production, piano, vocals) Jason McGerr (drums). The band started in the year 1997 as a solo project of Benjamin Gibbard. I was able to discover DCFC since 2001 when I was a frequently visit Tower Records in Makati. The band's name and cover art on their “We Have the Facts and We're Voting Yes” LP got my attention. So I said to myself, who will name their band as Death Cab for Cutie? Opposite extreme uses of words: Death and Cute. Have it played on the record bar and find the songs “feel good” for an indie band. Few years later, I heard one of their first single “New Year” from the album “Transatlanticism.” I was able to label their music as sad genius and mellow but melodic compared to more emo music of Dash

A Concert "Souvenir": Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark – “History of Modern” 2012 Manila Tour

OMD: Paul Humphreys & Andy McCluskey As a kid listening to new wave songs on his formative years, it will be a dream come true to watch one of the biggest bands in the 80’s: Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark. Watching them live will be an instant magical nostalgia,  going back to my happy childhood days discovering good music. As early as 6 years old in 1986, I was already been exposed to new wave music courtesy of my older brother and sister. I remember that one of my earliest favourite new wave songs were “Enola Gay” and “Secret”. “Enola Gay” has this swirling electro pop build up that could dance your day away. While “Secret” has this sad lush singing with an upbeat tempo plus a memorable high pitched chorus that will lead you to a last song syndrome. I always had our OMD records played on our cassette stereo or have it requested to a local DJ of a mobile disco outfit from someone's 18 th birthday debut street party. I also tuned in to the legendary 89 DMZ on Sundays
