Brace Yourselves for the Reckoning Day: Megadeth Live in Manila!

Image
So kids, brace yourselves!  Heavy Metal band Megadeth will be pulverizing Manila this July 29, 2012 at the World Trade Center in Pasay in support of the Th1rt3en World Tour. What a lovely day to die for the Reckoning day! Megadeth (current roster) A little bit of flashback: My grade school and high school years of listening to rock music had crossed paths with the heavy metal sounds of Megadeth. They were the second metal band I listened to after Metallica. Main man Dave Mustaine’s unique voice which is like cousin’s to AC/DC’s Brian Johson’s, was one of the arsenals of Megadeth besides that all of the members are virtuosos on their craft.  Everyone knows that Megadeth rose from the shadows of Metallica because Dave was Metallica’s former founding lead guitarist. But as times goes by, Megadeth's music becomes more interesting and Dave still got his unconventional voice and edge over James Hetfield. And that is what I liked about Megadeth.  The hei...

The Resurrection: The Stone Roses Live in Singapore & Hong Kong!!!

Image
The Stone Roses: Alan 'Reni' Wren, Gary 'Mani' Mounfield, Ian Brown and John Squire. When I first heard the news last year ( 18 October 2011)  that the Stone Roses has reunited, I was so very happy that Ian Brown and John Squire already settled their differences for freaking 15 years of not talking to each other. And when the news came out last April that the Stone Roses will be having a world tour plus Hong Kong and Singapore are part of the list, that great news really made me cry! The Stone Roses (1989) The Stone Roses are an English rock band formed in Manchester in 1983. The classic lineup consisted of vocalist Ian Brown, guitarist John Squire, bassist Gary "Mani" Mounfield, and drummer Alan "Reni" Wren. I became a big fan of the Roses when I first heard their single, “Love Spreads” from the radio sometime late 1994 and I was hooked! The awesome rocking riff and the lyrics were really magical! While waiting for my next...

Vertical Horizon and Ed Kowalczyk Live in Manila

Image
Vertical Horizon and Ed Kowalczyk Live in Manila 1) I want to want to watch the concert because both bands were a big part of my rocking high school and college music. I also do have their cassettes and CD record albums. I haven't seen both  bands and it would be the best birthday gift ever if I will be able to watch them live, its like high school and college life again in 3 hours! :D 2) Ed Kowalczyk's Lakini's Juice (Live) 3) This song is not your unusual Live song or single. It has a very sinister feel, strong approach and deep message about an obsession for a love one. You can check further details of the concert from Philippine Concerts by clicking the link below: Vertical Horizon and Ed Kowalczyk Live in Manila Vertical Horizon and Ed Kowalczyk (http://www.philippineconcerts.com/foreign/vertical-horizon-lives-ed-kowalczyk-live-in-manila-2012/)

The Cranberries - Live in Manila

Image
Boys and girls, are you ready for a rocking night with The Cranberries? Back in High School, when the single ‘Linger’ came out, it was one of the songs that I liked to play on guitars and had some high school girl friends sing it. We had joked about changing the lyrics “Do you have to use your finger?” haha. But when the song “Dreams” came out, it was a different feeling. I first saw the music video from Americas Top 10 by Casey Casem and it was the perfect dream alternative rock song I’ve ever heard! That song has convinced me to purchase their cassette album.  I remember that the album was reissued because it failed to chart good in the Billboard. The second release of “Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can't We?”  was a commercial success. This stamped the Cranberries as the next big Irish rock band next to U2. The guitar delays somewhat translate to the Edge’s guitar playing. Then came the hard pounding heavy tuned song “Zombie” from their second album...

OMD live in Manila - Concert Review

Image
What a intimate nostalgic night to party! Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark didn't fail to connect to their loyal fans here in Manila last March 12, 2012 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.  Attendees I saw were Buwi Meneses, and the rest of Parokya ni Edgar, Mon Castro of Pin up Girls, Gloc 9, Jay Manalo and Julia Clarete. Also the event served as a reunion party for High school and college mates from the 80s or early 90s. I also saw parents with their kids watching the show. Opening for OMD were local rock electronica duo of Turbo Goth. I was not able to start their set but was able to watch their last two songs. They lived up my expectations being one of the new artists in Manila to watch out for. I already saw them almost 3 years ago and they were able to release new stuff recently. Vocalist Sarah Gaugler, was donning  angel wings vs her black dress. OMD did the right mix for their set list, including obscure or n...
