Brace Yourselves for the Reckoning Day: Megadeth Live in Manila!
Heavy
Metal band Megadeth will be pulverizing Manila this July 29, 2012 at the World
Trade Center in Pasay in support of the Th1rt3en World Tour. What a lovely day to die for the Reckoning day!
Megadeth (current roster) |
A little bit of flashback: My
grade school and high school years of listening to rock music had crossed paths
with the heavy metal sounds of Megadeth. They were the second metal band I
listened to after Metallica. Main man Dave Mustaine’s unique voice which is
like cousin’s to AC/DC’s Brian Johson’s, was one of the arsenals of Megadeth
besides that all of the members are virtuosos on their craft.
Everyone
knows that Megadeth rose from the shadows of Metallica because Dave was Metallica’s
former founding lead guitarist. But as times goes by, Megadeth's music becomes more interesting and Dave still got his unconventional
voice and edge over James Hetfield. And that is what I liked about Megadeth.
The
height of my devotion to this band is from their albums Countdown to Extinction
(1992–1993) and Youthanasia (1994–1995). Songs ‘Symphony of Destruction’ and ‘Skin
o’ My Teeth’ were always blasting on my cassette player then. Of course the album Youthanasia contains the
infectious intro riffs and stomps of ‘Reckoning
Day.’ Then, who would forget ’99 Ways to Die’ from the Beavis and
Butthead soundtrack? It is one of the kick ass songs from that album besides
the ‘Lesbian Seagull’ song. Plus, the angry Dave yelling at Nick Menza for
over drumming on the track ‘Paranoid’ of the Black Sabbath tribute album
Nativity in Black is hilariously classic! And monthly guitar lessons and articles from
Marty Friedman on Guitar World magazine during my high school years has kept me
interested to the band.
'Friedman' years |
But Megadeth became lame with the ‘Crush Em’ from
the Risk album and I remembered that song as the soundtrack for the ‘Universal
Soldier 2’ movie. And my interest to Megadeth somewhat declined.
Mustaine is now backed up by the following
musicians: Dave Ellefson (bass), Shawn Drover (drums) and Chris Broderick
(guitars).
I am happy that Mustaine is already friends with
Lars Ulrich and the rest of Metallica and even jam them on Metallica’s 30th
anniversary.
The band is revitalized from their inclusion to
the Trash Metal’s Big Four concert tour with Metallica, Slayer and Anthrax.
The following songs are what we are going to expect from the band based from their recent concert tour set list:
Never Dead
Head Crusher
Hangar 18
Trust
She-Wolf
Poison Was the Cure
Sweating Bullets
A Tout Le Monde
Guns, Drugs & Money
Whose Life (Is It Anyways?)
Public Enemy No. 1
Symphony of Destruction
Peace Sells
Encore:
Holy Wars... The Punishment Due
