Image
Concert Recall: Lotus Eaters Live in Manila August 3, 2002 Rockwell Club Tent. The Lotus Eaters: Jeremy Kelly and Peter Coyle / Early Years I was trying to recall all the concerts I have attended for the last few years. Being gulity on not attending the following concerts here in Manila: Rage Against the Machine, Pearl Jam, Cranberries, Beastie Boys, Sonic Youth and Foo Fighters, I need to start my blood thirst concert viewing ASAP! One of those memorable concerts that I attended to was the concert of the 80's new wave band: The Lotus Eaters. This would be my first foreign artist concert I watched here in Manila and the first new wave band I saw live in the Philippine shores. I was aware of the band since the late 80's because of their songs were played on cassette tapes and vinyl by my elder brother and sister. Their songs were also in heavy rotation on the radio station 89 DMZ. There were only 3 Lotus Eaters song I knew of: "The First Picture of You",...

The [NIN]eties & Beyond will be not the same if there would be no [NIN]!!!!

Image
I remember when I strolled around malls and went to a local record bar (the now defunct Pop Station music store) that sells rocks shirts in the early 90's, I always see this Top 40 shirt with a cool [NIN] logo hanging in display in the glass wall. I asked the sales lady what does NIN means and she said that it was Nine Inch Nails, a band name. Okay. Sounds like a size of your manhood to brag upon. And that's were it all began. Young Trent Reznor at a gig. I got a taste of Nine Inch Nail's music when I was in high school, the so called grunge days. I was able to listen to their song "Closer" when it was still new on the radio and I was quite shocked to hear about its vulgar chorus : "I wanna ---- you like an animal!" It was as simple as filling out the blanks. Just deciphered the beep censored part they played on the radio and you know that it is the word "fuck". Indeed, the song has a very straight forward message. It was like a hardcore ...

"Jennifer's Body" Movie Review

Image
Posted last  Nov 18, '09 6:30 PM Jennifer's Body Movie review: This would be my 1st movie review after conceptualizing such review since Batman Returns and the 3rd Megan Fox movie I watched in the big screen as far as I can remember.. Now on the review: Nice plot. Two best friend's relationship was torn when an indie band kidnapped Jennifer (Fox) and sacrificed  her to the Devil to become f*cking famous...(so f*cking rock n roll urban legend)..Her friend "Needy" took most of the beating after that (So watch the movie to find out). The movie got a lot of witty, cheap witch craft spells and sarcastic lines (e.g. dissing Hannah Montana and Maroon 5) and I laughed a couple of times. Music credits Ryan Levine and the movie's main song: "Through the Trees" is written by him. I dunno if he is related to Adam Levine of the Maroon 5 fame. "Through the Trees" is as annoying as the "Amadeus" song from "Adventure land...

Morrissey Tribute Night @ Saguijo 1 / 7 / 2010

Image
Written last Jan 21, '10 2:59 AM Saguijo Bar, Makati. 1/07/10. It was a memorable night for Morrissey and Smiths fans! I brought along the president of the Morrissey fans club in the gig (Take A Bow mos! hehehe)  straight from his work and we were 1.25 hours early! The bar was quite empty! But around past 10 PM, people were going inside the bar, mostly groupies of the bands performing that night. The Gentle Isolation opened the night. Kate Torralba performed "Girlfriend in a Coma" and The Cure's Lovesong (It was a Morrissey/Smiths night and we dunno why she had this on her list). Then the unimaginable happened. Kate brought DJ Eva Kokoschka of Paris and delivered non-Morrissey; non-Smiths electro dance music on the floor! That prompted the next act, The Bernadettes, to perform "Panic" with the singer and the crowd sang in gusto: "hang the DJ, hang the DJ, hang the DJ!" hahaha...plus covering also "International Playboy." Then I redi...
